We have four self-contained apartments offering quite a diverse choice of setting and splendid luxury.

Old Bishops Quarters is perfect for independent travellers, who are not in need of hotel or guest house services. You use the apartment as your home away from home. And nearby hosts to help you plan your activities.

All apartments have been fitted out to the highest possible standard. Bathrooms are fully tiled bathroom with glass walled showers (two with designer baths as well), underfloor heating and heated towel rails. All have hydronic heating, sound-proofing, draught-proofing and plenty of character.

Free Wifi, iPad, Apple TV, Netflix and Sonos hifi systems with Spotify are provided in each apartment.

Mini-kitchenettes in the 2 bedroom apartments are equipped with dishwashers, bar fridges, microwaves, kettles, toasters and coffee plungers. Please note that there are no formal cooking facilities. However, BBQ facilities are available. Outside in the courtyard outhouse, there is a washing machine, dryer and a 2 ring stove top with cooking implements.

Our beds have high quality Australian-made AH Beard King Koil Spinal Contour Firm mattresses. Guests rave about them! Premium bed linen and plenty of good pillows are supplied along with bathrobes. 

We can provide travel cots and high chairs on request with no extra charge.

In the main house, we have the Old Housekeeper’s Apartment, a luxury, self-contained 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment. This is in the West wing of the house which was designed by Henry Hunter in the mid-19th century. It has been thoroughly refurbished with high quality bathrooms, heating and kitchenette equipment.

The apartment is private, self-contained with its own entrance and stairs to the first floor, completely separate to the main house. You will be the only visitors staying here when you book. The views over the Derwent River are very pleasant. If you are looking for a tranquil, out of the ordinary, beautiful place to stay whilst visiting Hobart, you’ve found it!

The apartment comprises:

  • 1 queen bedroom with a walk-in-wardrobe/dressing room (a roll away, full sized single bed can be set up to accommodate 1 further guest in this room)

  • 1 twin bedded bedroom (or double on request) - with an ensuite bathroom (a roll away, full sized single bed can be set up to make a 3 single bedded room) NB.When set up as a double bedroom the 3rd single cannot be used.

  • A large lounge room which opens to a dining room/kitchenette, featuring beautiful dark polished original oak flooring and pleasant views across extensive gardens towards the Derwent River

  • A sumptuous underfloor heated bathroom with a natural stone bath and floor-to-ceiling glass-walled shower

This apartment is ideal for 1 or 2 couples, families of 4, 5 or 6 or up to 5 single guests (5th bed is a roll-away in the queen bedded bedroom).

The historic School House Apartment incorporates a lounge room and and master bedroom with a king-sized double bed (2 single beds on request) under a vaulted ceiling in the original school house; via a glazed link, this leads to a separate kitchenette/dining space with bathroom and a cosy bunk bedroom with lower and upper bunk beds (top bunk folds away). It is wheel chair accessible but not designed to be DDA compliant.

This apartment is perfect for 1 couple, 3 adults, 4 singles or a family of 4. Please note that the second bedroom is compact and cosy.

The Tutor’s Apartment comprises a large master bedroom (2 single beds on request), a bunk bedroom with lower and upper bunk beds (top bunk folds away), a spacious shower room and a large lounge room with kitchenette. It has very pleasant views towards the Derwent River from the lounge room and glimpses of Mount Wellington.

This apartment is perfect for 1 couple, 3 adults, 4 singles or a family of 4 (including children over 2 yrs). Please note that the second bedroom is compact and cosy.

Sleep under the stars! Hidden away in a secluded end of the gardens is the eclectic Monty’s Hideaway. The perfect spot for a uniquely memorable romantic get away. This is Glamping at its absolute best.

Monty’s Hideaway Apartment comprises a luxurious queen-bedded bedroom/lounge with a retractable roof over your bed (with a rain sensor!). There is a spacious shower room with a lifting roof so you can shower in the morning sun. And there is a wonderfully secluded deck and pleasant views towards the Derwent River. There are no cooking facilities in the apartments but each has a BBQ available . Fridge, kettle, toaster and hair dryer. Free wifi.  TV, iPad, Apple TV, Netflix and Sonos hifi system with Spotify unlimited music on demand are provided.

There is simply nothing like it in Australia! Come with an adventurous spirit and you won’t be disappointed.

Monty’s Hideaway is named after Field Marshall Montgomery, arguably Tasmania’s most famous resident. He grew up in this place and was always in trouble, running away into the gardens for long periods.

COURTYARD AND OUTHOUSE FACILITIES

 
 

The courtyard provides seating and a Weber BBQ for guest use. In the adjacent outhouse
there are: cooking implements, fridge freezer, a two-ring stove top and countertop oven.
A washing machine and clothes dryer are located here as well.
